Professional Negligence Claim
Mr B sacked his top flight London Solicitors. They had not recovered the compensation that he had been seeking in a long drawn out case: he was suing his original Solicitors because his purchase of a night club complex had gone wrong. Mr B was dissatisfied with how preparations for the civil trial were being handled.
The trial of his negligence claim was due to take place in London at the beginning of June. It was going to take two weeks at Court. Levi Solicitors had just finished a smaller matter for Mr B and won.
Mr B decided to instruct Levi Solicitors to take over the night club case with only five weeks to go. We found that the case had been inadequately prepared, despite having dragged on for five years. The case had to be thoroughly prepared again by us almost from scratch. Papers had to be read, digested, analysed, straightened out, amended, collated and prepared for the Court. Eventually the documents only just fitted into a transit van.
Levi Solicitors had to interview new expert witnesses whose evidence appeared to be crucial on questions which had not previously been considered. We had to subpoena a Magistrates Clerk who had not previously been contacted at all.
Although the Defendants objected to all the late corrections we introduced, the Defendants finally settled on the first day at Court. They paid substantial damages to our clients, plus costs. |
