James studied law at Nottingham University and qualified at Hammonds in September 2001. He joins the firm from Hammonds as partner and head of Commercial and Intellectual Property.
His areas of expertise include both contentious and non-contentious intellectual property (IP), general commercial agreements, and corporate work. On the IP side, his practice focuses on the exploitation and enforcement of patents, trade marks, copyright and design rights. On the commercial side he is experienced in drafting, negotiating and advising on sale and purchasing agreements, distribution agreements, IT contracts, franchising, and other commercial contracts. James also deals with corporate matters including the sale and purchase of companies/businesses, shareholder/partnership agreements and share option schemes.
